I am a writer and an award-winning journalist, and have also been a literary curator.
- My journalism career has had roughly four phases, as described below.
- I published my first book in October 2025.
- Until June 2025 I was an associate director at Literature Live!, a literary events organisation whose flagship event is the Mumbai International Literary Festival. For more than five years, until June 2025, I was part of the curation team.
Reporter and correspondent
For the first ten years, I worked as a reporter and correspondent focusing on muckraking, or if you want a genteel word, investigative journalism. During this time, I wrote about issues in Mumbai for a city newspaper, covered western India for a national newspaper and reported briefly from Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall and for a year from Israel/Palestine for local and Indian publications.
Editor
In the second phase, for fifteen years, I worked as an editor in various capacities, while reporting and writing on the side, including a column as the readers’ editor of a newspaper.
Freelance journalist and columnist
For the next four years, the third phase, I freelanced for a variety of publications, wrote some long-form articles as well as a column.
Freelance journalist and writer
In the fourth phase, over about six years, I wrote my first book, The Secret Master, while continuing to freelance. In this period, I also helped curate an international literature festival. My book is available at leading book sellers. I hope to not be a one-book wonder.
