‘Arun emerges into an avartan like a tiger,’ Manohar Joshi, Gajananbuwa’s eldest son, once told Mukul Kulkarni, a senior student of Arun Kashalkar’s, referring to the majestic manner in which the musician fills the rhythmic cycle. This has been translated into English from the Marathi sentence which went as follows: ‘आवर्तनात अरुण वाघ सारखा निघतो’.
